The first Silver Dreams Staying Active club organised by Age UK Stafford and District took place on the 8th May at the Action for Blind People offices on North Walls in Stafford. We had seven people attend and a good time was had by all with lots of laughter. Much of the laughter was generated when individuals recounted their experiences of learning to cope with their sight loss. They all admitted that, although their experiences weren’t funny at the time, they could see the humour of the situations now.
It was agreed by all who attended that peer support was essential when trying to cope and adjust to sight loss as sharing problems and gaining advice helped enormously.
Future activities at the club will include regular Tai Chi sessions (which is invaluable for improving balance), pub lunches, guest speakers and a variety of social activities.
